About Us:
Captain Truman Barbier has been a boater all of his life. Growing
up on the Great Lakes he has sailed, motored or canoed them all…(Ok
not Lake Ontario) Truman has 24 Mackinaw races to his name winning
two of them 1st Overall and finishing in the top of his fleet more
often than not.
In 1998 Truman tossed in the racing towel and bought a Hans Christian
43, packed up this wife, two daughters and the dog and headed south
through the Great Lakes, down the Erie barge cannel, out the Hudson
and into the ocean. They spent 5 years on this beautiful boat before
landing in Coral Bay. This beautiful island and it's people cast
their spell on this family.
Captain George Markwood
It was not long and they bought some land, sold everything they
had including the boat and built a house. Truman bought Flyaway
Charters in October 2005 after having been a captain on the boats
for six months. Captain George Markwood is also a life long boater.
George worked on the Pacific crab boats for 10 years. He and his
wife moved to Jost Van Dyke in 1998 to run Sandcastles a resort
on the beach in White Bay.
After 5 years there it was time for a change of islands and they
moved to St. John. George ran boats for Ocean Runner for quite a
few years where he attained quite a following of customers. He started
working for Flyaway Charters a two years ago and many of his old
customers keep coming back. He is way fun! George has considerable
knowledge of these waters above and below. He spends his Saturdays
teaching KATS (kids and the sea) children how to sail.
Oh by the way these boats have an easy swim ladder an enclosed head.
Bottom line these boats and captains are FUN! About the photos…
